At the October 28 Board of Education meeting, the board heard three presentations from the administration. Board of Education meeting agenda.
Board Directives Update In the spring, the Board of Education directed the administration to address eight concerns that materialized during the investigation related to the Glenbrook South yearbook. As applicable, each directive has been outlined, and activities relating to the directive have been organized into two categories: completed and in progress. The administration has committed to reporting progress to the board on a quarterly basis. All the directives and the progress are linked on the Board of Education page.
The administration added a ninth section to the directives: Assess and evaluate various policies and procedures that support our ongoing security efforts.
The items in this directive address the need to conduct a Social and Emotional Learning Readiness Engagement Analysis of the Glenbrooks, make updates to the parent student handbook regarding dress code, use of electronics, student IDs and upgrades to camera systems in the schools.
SchooLinks Implementation SchooLinks is designed to help students discover their interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, create a personal graduation plan that best reflects their post-secondary goals and track their four-year experience in the Glenbrooks toward those goals. Students are also using the platform to request letters of recommendation from staff and community members.
TrueNorth Current and Future Use TrueNorth Educational Cooperative 804, previously NSSED, provides specialized educational services for 14 elementary and four high school districts, including Glenbrook. TrueNorth helps districts centralize resources for students with significant disabilities. Glenbrook has relied on TrueNorth for its TLS and TrueNorth transition program. Starting in 2023-24, Glenbrook began transitioning these to "in-house" programs to increase sustainability, belonging, and equitable opportunities for students.
Dr. Ninja Idrizi and Dr. Jennifer Pearson provided the board with a historical overview of the school district’s utilization of TrueNorth services, the financial impact of an ongoing membership with the cooperative, and future plans.
All Board of Education meetings are recorded. The link to the recordings can be found here.
