Applications now available for Operation Snowball
|
Applications are available from now through October 4 for students interested in attending this year's Operation Snowball retreat. The retreat will be held November 21 - 23 at Camp Edwards in East Troy, WI.
GBN's Operation Snowball is a club dedicated to promoting healthy decision-making, personal growth, and a sense of community among students and staff. Many students who have participated in Operation Snowball consider it one of the most meaningful experiences of their high school years, and many parents love it too. A parent shared, "Snowball is an amazing experience that all kids should consider. Its focus is on being open, vulnerable, and being alcohol and drug-free. My older son, who is in college, said it was life-changing.”
The retreat serves as a kick-off event for the club’s activities and provides students with opportunities to learn more about themselves and discuss a wide variety of topics important to their lives. Snowball creates an atmosphere in which everyone is accepted for who they are and has a lot of fun doing it. It's a great way to make new friends and feel more connected at GBN.

Upcoming Drill Day: October 1
|
The School Safety Drill Act requires that within the first 90 days of every academic year, we conduct at least one law enforcement lockdown drill. Schools are required to provide advance notification to parents and guardians. A lockdown drill evaluates the preparedness of school personnel and students for situations involving law enforcement when there is an active threat within a school building. The lockdown drill involves the following:
|
- Local first responders are present for the duration of the lockdown drill
- Does not include any simulations that mimic an actual school shooting incident or active shooter event
- Is announced in advance to all school personnel and students before it begins
- Includes content that is age and developmentally appropriate
- Includes and involves school personnel, including school-based mental health professionals
- Includes trauma-informed approaches to address the concerns and well-being of school personnel and;
- Permits students to ask questions related to the drill.
|
This year’s lockdown drill will take place on Tuesday, October 1, during Block 1. If you do not want your child to participate in the lockdown drill, please notify Jen Korbar, Associate Principal of Student Supports via email at: jkorbar@glenbrook225.org. Students who do not participate in the lockdown drill will be provided a staff-supervised space.

Accessing Glenbrook School Health Center (GSHC)
|
The GSHC can be accessed by students from Glenbrook North High School, with a shuttle service available most days when students are in session. Please use the following information when your child needs care and wants to access the Glenbrook School Health Center.
|
- Students may make medical or counseling appointments through the Glenbrook School Health Center (GSHC) website or by calling the Health Center at 847-486-5777. Appointments do not need to be made through the nurse’s office.
- Parents/guardians must sign the consent form that will be sent electronically from the GSHC staff or may be accessed on the website.
- Parents/guardians must let GBN attendance know their student will be leaving the building for an appointment.
- If accessing mental health services, the student may choose an in-person or virtual visit. If the visit is virtual, the student should report to student services for help identifying a space.
- The shuttle will not run when either GBN or GBS have adjusted schedules. Those dates can be found on the schedules below.
- If the student is not returning to GBN, the GSHC will inform the attendance office to excuse the student for the remainder of the day.

Join us as CATCH leads a Community Conversation and Call to Action about our kids' mental health! There is a lot of buzz about Jonathan Haidt's book, The Anxious Generation, which brings the youth mental health crisis to the forefront. Haidt talks about smartphones, social media and over-parenting, and he outlines very reasonable steps that we can take to create real change for our kids.
We will talk, share our concerns and discuss actionable next steps to reverse this youth mental health crisis. None of us can do this alone, but we CAN do this together.
